You
may have other applications within your organization
that need access to TCM data. Rather than adding
additional load to your main server, offload these
tasks and applications’
data access to SQL Server drastically reducing the additional
overhead placed on your main data server. SQL-Sync helps
preserve data integrity for your organization. You control
exactly which tables are synchronized to the database,
eliminating the need to expose all of your data to other
applications again increasing the integrity of your data.
TechAnalysts has been a WorkWise partner
for the past five years and has been working with TCM
since 1990. Both as a WorkWise partner, as well as throughout
the years working with TCM, we have directly contributed
to the TCM product and worked directly with many TCM customers.
TCM Customers consistently have asked for one thing – TCM
data on a relational database. SQL-Sync offers TCM Customers
a way to have their data on SQL Server RIGHT NOW!!
Real-time synchronization of your TCM
data gives you the security of a backup copy of your data
from which your primary data files could be recovered if
that's ever necessary (NOTE: Do not use this in place of
your existing backup method - it is just another up to
the minute option.) Also,
you may wish to work with other technologies, such as ASP
or ASP.NET, Visual Studio.Net, Perl or other 3rd party
programming languages.
You may wish, for example, to put together a website that
offers customer service reports to your customers using
Active Server Pages. By making the data available
in SQL Server via SQL-Sync,
the programming is simple and doesn't require the overhead
of xfODBC against your live data.
SQL-Sync comes
with a control panel that allows you to specify exactly
which structures from which files for which companies
will be transferred to the SQL database. You can also
incorporate "add methods", "update
methods" and
"delete methods" for your structures.
For example, you may have another table within the
SQL database that needs to be updated whenever one
of your TCM or Synergy SDMS files are updated; or you
may want to exclude certain records. This process can
now be fully automated with SQL-Sync.
SQL-Sync also
allows the use of "transfer structures".
This concept allows you to add or update only portions
of the TCM data records to the SQL database. For example,
you may not want to include all of the data from the
Shop Order records, but rather just a sub-set. You
can define transfer structures and simply transfer
the data that's important to you. This will simplify
any programming you may do against the SQL database.
Or, you may wish to create a superset of data in which
you combine data from more than one record to a single
table within SQL Server. Again, SQL-Sync allows for
this through the use of transfer structures.
SQL-Sync uses
a two prong approach - a very simple mod to your existing
main I/O routine to call the SQL-Sync subroutine.
This subroutine will handle "queuing a message" for
the main SQL-Sync service
process. Secondly, this main service runs, looking
for these queued messages. When it finds one, it processes
the data and sends it to the SQL Database.
SQL-Sync runs
on Microsoft Windows, but the base TCM or Synergy-based
system can be on any platform. Regardless of the platform
on which you run your enterprise software, whether
it's Unix, Linux, VMS or otherwise, SQL-Sync will
work for you.
